Weeell... About time I got to this one, right guys? Although I admit, this one is incredibly hard to explain in just words but I feel like I do a good job of it. Since I know just how much you guys love my very detailed explanations, I've included a Too Long; Didn't Read section down at #4. Though you really can't understand how this works all that well without the detail parts, especially when its in just writing and not visual.
Welcome to Map Glitch 101 class! Unlike usual, I don't have any fancy intro so uh... Lets get right into it, shall we?
Section 1: Understanding the Concept
Basically, a map glitch is any area inside a wall or ceiling that you technically shouldn't be able to get into, but thanks to us being haxors, we can totally do that and annoy the devs who made the game. The idea is pretty simple: You're forcing yourself into a wall and or ceiling via momentum and crouching at the appropriate time, usually mixed with wallgrabbing inside of the glitch to trick the game into thinking you belong there when you actually don't. If this sounds confusing, don't worry. It'll be clarified a bit better in the step-by-step guide below. All you really need to understand is, some sections of the map (specific brushes), especially rounded spots, were made in such a way that there is a hollow area within them that can be accessed when one abuses the game's physics engine.
Section 2: Getting through
Soo lets start with the easy part. How does one get through a ceiling or wall? Well, first you need momentum. Once you have that, all you have to do is crouch. Lets go with an example...
As I cannot actually screenshot the action (the screenshot is always black due to the extreme timing needed to get it) I've taken the liberty of drawing a little diagram.
So, if you want to get into the ceiling, you would start at point A, on the ground below the ceiling. You would then jump to gain momentum (B) until you were almost about to hit the ceiling (C). At point C, just before that contact, you're releasing jump and pressing crouch. The momentum you have from the jump should allow you to still make it above the ceiling, and the crouching will make the game try to register you at half your normal height (like a crouch), however, it cannot because the jump animation does not get any lower. This means that your head and part of your upper body will effectively pass through ceiling and into it.
Section 3: Getting inside
Alright hotshot, you can get through a ceiling. Hooray! Now to get in the glitch. So, once you've made it to point D on the above graphic, you are now registering as inside that area. This means that, if you can find a way to get higher and land on something, you're inside the glitch. How do you do that? Glad you asked! In a majority of glitch spots, once you've reached point D, you can wallgrab the closest wall. This will allow you to push yourself above that line, and with hope, onto the nearest ledge inside the glitch. Keep in mind that in order to wallgrab, you have to release crouch and press space plus the direction of the wall. This means it will be a very quick set of keystrokes to get in. They start off hard, but take my word for it, it becomes super easy muscle memory with enough practice.
Section 4: TL;DR
Jump. Release jump and press crouch. Release crouch and press jump+direction of a wall for wallgrab. Congrats, you're in. What? You wanted a better explanation? Well, too bad no one made a long post explaining exactly how to do this...
...Oh wait.
Well, you wanted the short version, that's why you read this part. This is the short version.
Section 5: Special Conditions
Curved Glitches: Some curved sections of maps do not actually require the wallgrab. Some areas can be accessed just by jumping at them and crouching into them. These tend to be harder to manage though.
Angled Glitches: Some, like one of the walls in the bar of ffa3, require jumping at an angle. But it still works off the same exact principle, just weird timing and angled momentum. The bottom section of the ffa3 tower is another such glitch.
Butterfly Glitches: There are a few select glitches that can only be accessed with dual sabers. Some of them require two people: One to butterfly, and one to stand on the head of the person butterflying. Others, like glitching under the xwing on ffa3, just require you to get in the right position.
All FFA3 Glitches:
Video created by the PADVT. No walls or x-wings were harmed in the making of this video. Dzon was harmed a little bit.
